CURRENT project

Building our first orphanage

Build on Hope is currently building an orphanage for the children to seek refuge, an education and a new start. It will also provide a place for the elderly to heal properly while taking care of the children. There will be one adult for every 5-6 orphans showing them proper hygiene, cooking and cleaning, and teaching the children about their culture. Constructing this orphanage has provided jobs for many of the residents and is building a new sense of hope in the community. The orphanage is well under way and should be finished within the final quarter of 2009! Once the orphanage is ready for use, it will be continuously regulated and monitored to ensure its purpose is upheld with integrity. This orphanage will be the first of many. The ultimate objective is to have enough orphanages to care for the majority of children in Massinger, and then expand to other communities in Mozambique.

Thank you

Tiny flew to Africa the first of November. He and Koors made several trips from South Africa to Mozambique with truck loads of food for the children.

Tiny took gifts and clothes over to the children. The children wrote a BIG Thank You note to the Borenstein and Galluzzo families of South Florida that doanted the beautiful gifts that the children will always cherish. Most of the children had nver had a toy or game before.

Current project

Keep drilling a waterhole

Access to clean water poses a major problem in Africa. The only viable water source is the river, but there are several obstacles present. Many women and children have to venture a rigorous trek of up to 10 miles on foot to get this water so many of them only do so once every few weeks. With the lack of necessary infrastructure needed to maintain clean water, the people are at big risk of a cholera outbreak, which is a very deadly disease resulting in a quick death. Drilling several wells around the community will provide an accessible water source for every day uses. Members of the community can use the water to cook, bathe, wash clothes, personal hygiene and boil for drinking. Convenient access to water provides one of the greatest benefits to any community aiming to flourish despite a perilous beginning.
